What the Settings Actually Change

Personalization beats presets

Initiative is the big one
If you keep getting passive replies, the character probably isn't set to take the lead. Raising initiative changes more than any other single setting.
Settings are not consent
A slider doesn't oblige you to continue in a direction you've gone off. Every platform worth using lets you change the settings, change the subject, or stop.

- Set the tone early — a flat greeting wastes the first ten exchanges. One line that signals what you're after does more than a paragraph of setup.
- Ask in plain language — characters respond to directness far better than to hints. If you want her to take the lead, say so once.
- Redirect rather than restart — when a chat drifts, name the change instead of abandoning the session. "Slower" is a complete instruction.
- Decide your limits before you start — boundaries set while calm are the ones that survive. Deciding mid-conversation is harder.
- Don't read agreement as a compliment — a character who agrees with everything gets dull inside ten minutes. Push back and see whether she does.
- Stop when you're done — closing the window is a legitimate way to end a session.

Privacy
Before You Type Anything Intimate

- Where conversations are stored, and for how long — the policy should say plainly whether chats persist after you close the window.
- Whether your chats train anything — some platforms use conversations to improve models and let you opt out; others do neither.
- What your account is tied to — an email, a phone number, a payment method. Each adds a thread back to you a pseudonym doesn't remove.
- What deletion actually deletes — deleting a chat, a character and an account are three operations, and backups are often excluded.
- Whether a retention period is stated in writing — a number is a commitment; silence isn't.
What anonymity does and doesn't mean
A pseudonymous account separates the conversation from your name. It does not separate it from your IP address, your device, or a payment record if you've paid for anything. An alias email is a precaution, not a guarantee, and clearing your own history removes your copy rather than the platform's. None of that is a reason to avoid the category — it's a reason to decide what you're comfortable sharing beforehand.
